Tops Markets, LLC, is headquartered in Williamsville, NY, and operates 134 full-service supermarkets – 129 company-owned and five franchise locations.  With more than 14,000 associates, Tops is a leading full-service grocery retailer in upstate New York and northern Pennsylvania.  This internship opportunity will provide an aspiring public relations practitioner with strategic and tactical public relations/communications experience.

Title: 
Public Relations/Communications Intern

Internship Description:
The Public Relations/Communications intern will be responsible for assisting in the day-to-day activities required to execute the company’s public relations/communications strategic vision. These responsibilities will include drafting press materials to be distributed to local media outlets, monitoring press coverage, writing articles for internal distribution, taking photographs, maintaining internal websites, assisting with public relations events, as well as other administrative functions and tasks.

Schedule:
The hours and days are flexible, within a Monday through Friday 8:30 am – 5:00 pm work week. Weekends and some evenings may be required.

Qualifications:
Working toward a bachelor’s degree in communications and/or public relations, demonstrate an understanding of the principles of public relations, excellent verbal and written communication skills, proficient in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Publisher, strong attention to detail, ability to multi-task and meet deadlines.

Please provide three (3) appropriate writing samples that best reflect your experience/knowledge in the field of public relations/communications.

Compensation:
This is an unpaid internship opportunity.  Class credits are available through your college/university.

PRSA Buffalo Niagara Chapter Announces 2013 Board of Directors

The Buffalo Niagara Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) has announced its 2013 Board of Directors. The executive leadership includes: President John DellaContrada, assistant vice president, University at Buffalo Office of Communications; President-Elect Tony Astran, publicity manager, Seneca Gaming Corporation; Secretary Elizabeth Silverman, public relations specialist, Gateway-Longview; Treasurer Jacqueline Ghosen, APR, assistant dean and director of communications, University at Buffalo School of Management; and Immediate Past President Virginia McAuliffe, marketing and enrollment coordinator, Complete Senior Care.

Directors-at-Large are Olivia Belter, community affairs director, Univera Healthcare; Jennifer Gallardo, account coordinator-public relations, Independent Health; and Kevin Manne, APR, assistant director of communications, University at Buffalo School of Management. Assembly delegates include Kate LaBrake, director of marketing and communications, St. Joseph’s Collegiate Institute; and Jessica Christensen, communications specialist II, Praxair.
