1. Where did you go to college and what was your degree? Duquesne University, Integrated Marketing Communications and English
2. Hong long have you been a member of PRSA? 6 years
3. Why did you join PRSA? To meet fellow PR professionals. Because I went to college in Pittsburgh, PA, I didn’t know anyone in the PR field here in Buffalo, so I knew it would be to my advantage to join PRSA. It was the best thing I could have invested in as a young professional. I built a network of PR colleagues who I can rely on to offer advice and new ideas.
4. What is your PRSA Board position? What do you enjoy the most or what have you learned in your role? My board position is Director-at-Large. The thing I enjoy the most in my role is being able to work with board on developing opportunities for the organization and problem solving.
5. What do you wish you’d known when you started in PR? PR is so much more diverse than what the textbooks tell you in college. It’s not all about writing press releases and doing interviews. Especially with the way technology is advancing, PR is more diverse than ever.
6. What’s the best part of your job? No two projects are alike, and I get to work with so many other people and departments on projects.
7. What’s the toughest lesson you’ve learned on the job? Proofreading (over and over and over…) is a necessary evil.
8. What do you (or would you) tell local college students majoring in public relations or young professionals who may seek career advice from you? Do at least one internship. An internship doesn’t only provide you with relevant work experience to help build your resume, but it also provides you with invaluable hands-on work experience.
9. What’s your favorite activity or place to go in Western New York? My favorite activity in WNY is dining out and trying new restaurants.
10. If you could ghostwrite a major speech for any person, living or dead, who would it be and why? I’ve thought about this for a long time, and I still have no idea.
