1. Where did you go to college and what was your degree?
I received my B.A. in communication studies from Canisius College and my M.S. in public relations from the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications at Syracuse University.

2. Hong long have you been a member of PRSA?
I just became a member of PRSA this past May.

3. Why did you join PRSA?
I joined PRSA to network and learn from other public relations professionals in WNY. From healthcare to education, I believe the Buffalo/Niagara has much to offer. I really enjoy meeting public relations professionals in all industries who contribute to the growing development of the region.

4. What is your position with PRSA? What do you enjoy the most or what have you learned?
I recently attended a PRSA lecture about PR in the age of disruption. I enjoy learning about how increasing digital platforms of communication continue to change the landscape of PR. As an evolving professional, I think it’s important to constantly examine the potential impact of this movement on the field.

5. What do you wish you’d known when you started working in public relations?
I wish I had known that PR never sleeps, thanks to social media.

6. What is the best part of your job?
The best part of my job is being surrounded everyday by experts in the communication field. I get to learn firsthand from people who are truly passionate and talented at what they do.

7. What is the toughest lesson you have learned on the job?
Wearing high heels while standing during an entire press conference absolutely kills your feet!

8. What do you (or would you) tell local college students majoring in public relations or young professionals who may seek career advice from you?
Seek a variety of internship experiences (agency, not-for-profit, healthcare, etc.) and develop meaningful relationships with your professors. Professors can provide a breadth of knowledge and valuable insight about the professional world of public relations. Also, use your college’s communication department as a resource to network and meet communications alumni. The more people you talk to as a student, the better informed you’ll be about the field.

 9. What’s your favorite activity or place to go in Western New York?
I love Western New York so it’s really hard for me to pick just one. My favorite places include the Canisius College campus, Albright-Knox Art Gallery, Spot Coffee, Sinatra’s Restaurant and Niagara Falls State Park.

10. If you could ghostwrite a major speech for any person, living or dead, who would it be and why?
Because I’m a strong advocate for women’s advancement and gender equality, I would have loved to write a speech for American social activist Elizabeth Cady Stanton. It wasn’t long ago that women were finally granted voting rights in this country, and to write a speech about the tremendous victory would be very rewarding for me.
